Glasgow City Council elected members met on Thursday 20 August 2026 and approved council management proposals on Pay and Grading. This model adopted by the council is going to leave some of the workforce with pay detriment.
The council has advised that members facing pay detriment will be invited to meet with their manager for a 1 -2-1 meeting to be informed of the new pay and grading.
GMB Branch 74 members wishing to have a GMB representative at this 1-2-1 meeting for support can contact GMB Branch 74 :by using Contact Us Page link: https://www.gmbglasgowcity.org.uk/contact-us
If you have any questions about the information you are given about Pay and Grading, or you wish to know more how to appeal against the Job Role / Pay / Grading outcome, then do get in touch with GMB Branch 74.
As a branch we are ready to support and guide our members collectively and individually.
Your voice matters and where our members need to fight for fair pay for their work, then together union branch and members will stand in solidarity against these brutal and unfair decisions that can impact our members welfare, livelihood, family life etc.
Glasgow City Council has made a choice to implement a pay and grading system that will leave many workers poorer. That is not right. That is not acceptable. That is what GMB with our members will challenge in the coming weeks and months.
Lets stand as strong voice and appeal the final outcome – hope the council as an employer sees sense. Otherwise the legacy of the outgoing Council Leader Susan Aitken will be a legacy that represents chaos, pain, and poverty. A legacy like that is not what Glasgow deserves.
In solidarity with GMB Members of Branch 74
Stay strong, stand united and lets prepare for the appeal process and hope that our members are given a fair decision that recognises the excellent work done, the risks they face on the job, and for the goodwill and dedication given to the services by our members over th years. Without GMB members the council wont be able to deliver on services.
